Chemical Peels in NYC

Chemical peels utilize chemical solutions to penetrate the dermis to correct damaged cells, restoring a youthful and vibrant appearance. Scarring, texture, acne, and photodamage are improved after only a few sessions. Even though there are a few chemical peels available, at Manhattan Microneedling we utilize TCA and salicylic chemical peels.

TCA is classified as superficial to medium depth chemical peel and is highly efficacious in the treatment of wrinkles, photodamage, pigment changes, and scarring. TCA chemical peels range in concentrations from 15% to 50% and may be combined with other chemicals. TCA provides more dramatic results than superficial chemical peels.

The skin is first degreased and prepared, then solution is applied. Many factors determine different levels of peeling, including concentration of chemical peel, amount of strokes applied, how hard solution is rubbed in, and even post treatment care. These are all important to consider, as this will also affect results. TCA chemical peels causes coagulation of proteins which lead to collagen deterioration. This is evidenced by frosting occurring at initial application. Erythema and edema are likely as well, with skin healing occurring around seven days. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy chemical peel treatment for grades III and IV acne.

At Manhattan Microneedling a 20% or 30% concentration is used. Salicylic acid is considered superficial with comedolytic and sebostatic properties that can safely treat inflammatory and non-inflammatory pustules, with studies confirming its efficacy. Take note however, that even though salicylic acid is safe and beneficial for any skin type, those with aspirin allergies should avoid this kind of chemical peels done. After skin is degreased, salicylic acid is applied, causing mild stinging sensation, then the peel will be neutralized. Since clogging is brought to top of epidermis, more pimples will be seen, but this is only temporary. After any chemical peel skin is sensitive to the sun, so using high quality sunscreen is important.
